Ushr Kya Hai?

Method & Sources
Ushr is Zakat on agricultural produce. The rate depends on irrigation: 10% for rain/natural water, 5% for tube well/pump, and 7.5% for mixed irrigation per many Hanafi scholars.
For grain crops, Nisab is 5 Wasaq — approximately 653 kg or about 17.5 Maund.
Fruits, vegetables and non-grain crops have scholarly differences. Consult your local Mufti for binding rulings on your specific crop and situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Zakat and Ushr?
Zakat is generally on wealth (gold, silver, savings, business assets). Ushr is specifically Zakat on agricultural produce from land.
When should Ushr be paid?
It should be paid at harvest time — when the crop is gathered — not delayed to a later year.
Can Ushr be paid in cash instead of crop?
Yes. Many scholars allow paying the cash equivalent of the Ushr amount based on current market value of the produce.
